Frequently Asked Questions

What is ubroadcast?

ubroadcast is the “World’s Online Broadcasting Community”. You can listen with our “Player” software to ubroadcast original channels, as well as LIVE broadcasts by independent broadcasters who use our “Station Manager” software.

How is ubroadcast different?
We give our listeners the opportunity to host a LIVE talk radio or music show, and provide a fully interactive experience that you can’t get on satellite, terrestrial or Internet radio. Our Patent Applied For software was built from the “ground up” specifically for LIVE broadcasting, HD quality, and user interaction.

Can I really host my own show on ubroadcast?
You bet! All you need is some basic equipment and our Station Manager software. You can broadcast recorded content 24 hours a day or “go LIVE” any time you wish. It’s your show - you pick the format, music, broadcast times, subject matter, etc. We give the station to run as you wish, broadcast what you want, and even sell commercial space to generate income.

Do I need any broadcasting experience?
No. ubroadcast has everything from professional radio broadcasters to people who have never talked into a microphone before. Part of the “charm” of ubroadcast is the amateur broadcasts and the uncensored original style they have. While ubroadcast’s software is a “professional strength” application, you don’t need to be a pro to use it.

Do I have to broadcast?
No. If you prefer you can just listen to the vast amount of music from your favorite artists in HD quality, special celebrity interviews and exclusive content, and the infinite Independent broadcaster topics.

Can I make money with ubroadcast?
Yes! In addition to advertising your own product or service, and linking listeners to your web site that sells products, you can sell “commercial” space to Local, National or International sponsors of your choice. You determine what to charge for these commercials and how often they play on your station.

How is this different from Podcasting?
This is real LIVE radio baby! Nothing compares to LIVE broadcasts and the power they have. We provide the venue and the LIVE audience to hear you and interact with. If you have Podcasting software that you use to record with, you can upload your Podcast’s to your station (as long as the render in MP3 or WAV format) and have them play while you are not broadcasting LIVE.

Is the content censored on ubroadcast?
No. Since we broadcast over the Internet we are not governed by the FCC as with traditional radio stations. We do not however allow illegal, hateful, defaming, or other material on ubroadcast, and users (especially parents of younger users) are strongly cautioned to visit our Safety Tips section for more information.

How do I get started on ubroadcast?
Start by downloading the ubroadcast Player and Listening to some of our music and LIVE broadcasters. This will give you an idea of what’s on ubroadcast and may give you some ideas as to what you may want to broadcast about if you choose to do so.

Do I need any special equipment to listen or broadcast?
All you need to listen is a Windows PC (2000 or later) with a Broadband Internet connection, our Player software, and of course a soundcard and speakers. To broadcast you need the same, but with the addition of either a multi media headset (a computer headset that has a microphone) or a microphone that will plug into your computer and a headset. A number of more exotic configurations (mixing boards, multiple microphones and signal processing, telephone lines etc.) can be accomplished to broadcast as long as you can get the ultimate audio source into your computer.

Will the software work if I upgrade to Microsoft Vista?
Yes, the Player and Station Manger software are designed to work with any Microsoft operating system from Windows 2000 and up. You will not have to re install our software if you upgrade to Microsoft Vista.

I am having trouble getting started, or I am having Microsoft DirectX or other errors!
Complete instructions on using our software, demos, broadcasting tools, and bug fixes are available on or User Support and Help page, and many users who have already began broadcasting post helpful messages on our User Forum.

I use a Mac, can I use the Software?
You may be able to listen to some stations with the ubroadcast Player if you are running Virtual PC on your Mac, but they may not work properly. The Station Manger is only for Windows. A Mac version for both the Player and Station manger software are currently under development.

Can I listen to ubroadcast on my “old fashioned” radio?
No, but why would you want to? ubroadcast gives you HD quality uncensored programming on an infinite amount of subjects with complete user interaction, and is the “Next Generation” in radio. You can of course, connect your PC to your home stereo with cables or a streaming device to hear our programming through your quality audio components if you wish.

How do I listen in my car?
Wireless and mobile computing technology is rapidly going to make this a reality in the very near future as some auto manufactures such as Ford have already introduced in car PC’s as an option. With improvements in these products, and as the costs decline with mass deployment, more consumers will be able to listen to ubroadcast on the go, and on a variety of devices.

How can my organization advertise on ubroadcast?
While we strive to keep interruptions to a minimum on our ubroadcast produced channels, we have a number of ways to advertise on one of the most exciting and effective venues available. Contact our advertising department for opportunities such as audio spots, channel sponsorship, and interactive advertisements.
